Subaru Clutch Replacement

Your clutch is one of the most important parts of your Subaru, it connects your car’s engine to it’s transmission. Over time, it is possible for your clutch to wear out. If this happens it will be impossible to change gears so you’ll need to have it fixed immediately. Read on if you are concerned or suspect that you need a Subaru clutch replacement.

How long should a clutch last on a Subaru?

At least 50,000 miles - but it depends

How long your clutch lasts will depend on many different factors, but they are designed to last at least 50,000 miles in normal operation. Over time the friction between the clutch plate and the flywheel will wear the plate down. Like anything else, this can vary based on how well you take care of your Subaru and your driving habits. Consult your owner’s manual to find the manufacturer’s recommendations on how long your clutch should last.

How can you tell if a clutch is bad?

There are a few obvious signs that it’s time to take your car to a Subaru Specialist like SL Autoworks. If you’re experiencing any of the signs below, you could need a clutch replacement.

How much does it cost to replace a burned-out clutch?

You can expect a professional clutch replacement to start around $1,800. While new parts need to be purchased for the job, the labor adds to the clutch replacement cost. The driveshaft will need to be removed and the transmission disassembled in order to reach the clutch. This should only be attempted with proper equipment (oftentimes a hoist is required) and expertise.

Can you drive on a bad clutch?

You should never drive on a damaged clutch. It is dangerous, and can also cause much more serious damage to your Subaru. If you see any of the signs mentioned above, bring your car into a trusted mechanic as soon as possible.
